Welcome to The Unpaid Leave Life

I'm so glad you're here. I'm Leanna and for years, my life revolved around project deadlines, client meetings, and the daily hustle of a demanding career, all while navigating the beautiful chaos of being a mom to one amazing kid.

Fast forward to today, and my "uniform" has shifted from blazers to yoga pants, my "commute" is now a trip down the hallway, and my main focus is nurturing two incredible little humans. That's right – we've welcomed a new addition to our family, and I've officially traded the corporate world for the wonderfully wild adventure of being a stay-at-home mom of two and, even more exciting, a homeschooling parent!

This blog is my space to share the honest, often messy, but always heartfelt journey of this massive life transition. Here, you'll find real talk about:

 * Homeschooling highs and lows: From discovering the perfect curriculum to those days when nothing seems to go right, I'll share our learning adventures.

 * Balancing baby and big kid: The art (and occasional circus act) of managing a newborn alongside an active school-aged child's learning needs.

 * Finding my footing: Rediscovering my identity and purpose outside of a job title, and embracing the new rhythms of home life.

 * Tips and tricks: What I'm learning along the way about creating a thriving home and a joyful learning environment.

Whether you're a fellow mom navigating a similar path, considering the leap into homeschooling, or just curious about what life looks like after the corporate grind, I hope you'll feel right at home. We're figuring it out one day, one lesson, and one heartfelt moment at a time.

Thanks for joining me on this incredible journey from boardroom to backpacks – it's a wild ride, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The Laundry Can Wait: Putting YOU Back on the To-Do List

Okay, mamas, let's have a real talk. How many times today have you put someone else's needs before your own? Fed tiny humans? Check. Wiped up countless spills? Check. Folded approximately one million loads of laundry? Double-check. As stay-at-home parents, our days are a whirlwind of caring for everyone else, and honestly, it can feel like our own needs fall to the very bottom of an already overflowing to-do list.

The Missing First Day Smile (and Yearbook!)

It hit me like a load of laundry I forgot in the washing machine overnight – a soggy, slightly depressing realization. This year, there will be no frantic morning rush to find the perfect first-day outfit. No carefully posed picture on the porch, backpack gleaming, a forced-but-sweet smile plastered on my 10-year-old’s face. No nervously excited chatter about new teachers and classmates over the dinner table.

Stepping Up to the Plate (Literally!)

Okay, mamas, let's have a real talk moment. How many of you feel like your world sometimes shrinks to the four walls of your house, the minivan, and maybe the occasional grocery store run? Don't get me wrong, being a stay-at-home mom is the hardest and most rewarding job in the world. But sometimes, just sometimes, I feel like I'm stuck in a loop of laundry, meal prep, and the never-ending quest for matching socks.

The Midnight Shift: Surviving on Coffee, Cuddles, and Pure Will

It’s 12:06 a.m. and I'm staring at the ceiling, my brain a jumbled mess of to-do lists and anxieties. My 6-month-old, a tiny dictator of my sleep schedule, has finally gone down for the night. But the silence that follows isn’t restful. I’m listening for the tell-tale sign that my 10-year-old is still in his bed. Is he? I tiptoe down the hall, peeking into his room. He's a whirlwind of blankets and stuffed animals lost in a dream of Minecraft, his leg twitching. I gently pull the blankets over him and check the lock on the back door. It's an ingrained habit, a silent ritual of a mother’s worry for her autistic, ADHD son.

How To Be a Calm Mom in a 3-Ring Circus

Life with kids can feel like a three-ring circus, right? Between the spilled milk, the never-ending laundry, and the tiny humans who seem to thrive on chaos, it's easy to feel like you're constantly teetering on the edge of a meltdown. As a fellow stay-at-home mom, I get it. We all want to be that calm, serene presence for our kids, but sometimes it feels like an impossible dream.

Funny Mom Fails: You Are Not Alone!

Let's be honest, we've all been there. That moment when you realize you've sent your kid to school with two different shoes, tried to pay for groceries with a toy coin, or accidentally packed a TV remote instead of a juice box in a lunchbox. Motherhood is a beautiful, chaotic journey, and sometimes, the chaos wins. And you know what? That's perfectly fine, and often, absolutely hilarious!
